I have popped in here over the last few years to sample some of their very creative cocktail selections, but never tarried to sample the food put out by the young chefs and kitchen staff. Well, tonight a friend and myself went there for dinner,...and sampled some of the small to medium sized plates on offer. Knowing that most “ sharing dishes “ are minuscule and usually overpriced, I was curious to experience he “ portion to value “ ratio. Well, I was extremely pleased to find that the taste of he food on offer and the cost was VERY reasonable. What did I have, you ask....? To start, we shared a plate of green grapes, olives, and in house roasted almonds as an addition to our strawberry and gin cocktails ....DELICIOUS !! I had the “ Murray’s Tomatoes “ bathed in tomato seed vinegar and dill, which lifted both of our palettes into the next level of tastes. My friend had the steak tartare with tarragon cornichons and crispy shallots with a side of sour dough ( lightly toasted ) bread. Perfect in taste and portion....as I have steak tartare here and whenever I am in Europe, so I can judge these things. Next was the Pintxo Deluxo ( ....two perfectly grilled rose shrimp on top of truffled mushroom caps and each sporting a small shishito pepper.) There is a bit of trickery here, as it’s the luck of the draw whether you get the mild or REALLY hot pepper, as they both look the same. At this point it might be time to cool your mouth with one of the reasonably priced wine on their wine list..... The scallop ceviche with passion fruit, jicama ( ubiquitously on EVERY trendy menu now, it seems ) and serrano kosho ...was extremely fresh, and cool, yet had just enough frisson to it to elevate from the banal to something truly tasty and interesting On to the himachi tuna.....with black garlic , pickled onion and caviar . Brilliant in it’s execution , and subtly hot from the jalapeño .....but not quite as bracing as the scallop ceviche........MY FAVOURITE !! Whilst I did not indulge in dessert, my friend did, and he had the espresso panna cotta....which he found light, but intensely flavourful.. In summation, I highly recommend this establishment, commandeered by a wonderfully talented Chef, and his brigade. They deserve your attendance and rapt gustatorial attention.
