My daughter arrived home from her 4 months away at school in Scotland. She felt like a family dinner (plus her boyfriend). 6 of us headed out to the Grand Leisure, a brand new place with a Chinese-French fusion menu in downtown Hamilton. Ordered 2...set meals - Rack of Lamb for 4 and Lobster for 2. These came with several side dishes including shrimp, ox tail, boar & beef dishes, plus several vegetable dishes. It is a Chinese style mix of dishes, but the dishes are not Chinese food. Everyone got a small bowl of fish soup in advance. The Shrimp and Mushrooms were my favourite and were high on everyone's list. The lamb was done perfectly. The ox tail melted in our mouths. We all thought every dish was fabulous. The mushrooms were the best I'd tasted (and I've eaten Tapas in Spain where mushrooms are a specialty). Our waiter Chuck Luigi (who is from Hong Kong) recommended a Ripasso red wine at $42. He decanted and after about 30 minutes, the flavor blossomed into an Amarone flavour. Excellent choice. The younger guys had beers. The owner then brought out a custard dessert similar to crème brule along with coffees for everyone. Chuck finished with a tour of the Karaoke rooms in the basement and upstairs - you can rent these rooms complete with big screen TVs, Karaoke machines and microphones for private parties. The place started getting traffic to these rooms around 9:30 - they are open until 3:00 am. Cost including tip was about $70 per person - for drinks, desserts, coffees, very attentive and friendly service and a fabulous meal. I'll be back.
