I’m always on the lookout for Thai restaurants that I’ve never tried before so Talay Thai has been on my radar in case I ever found myself in the South Granville area. We showed up for lunch one weekday in early November and tried some...of their lunch specials. The Kaeng Khiew Waan ($11) or Green Curry Chicken is one of my go-to dishes when I visit a Thai restaurant. Both lunch specials come with a freshly fried up crispy springroll filled with tightly wrapped on vermicelli noodles. My impression of the Pad Thai Prawns ($11) was very much like the green curry chicken… a bit basic and the flavours appeared to cater more to the western palate. There was nothing wrong with the food and it was a fair price for the somewhat smaller lunch size. But there was nothing here that would make me go out of my way to try their food. Perhaps it was just their limited lunch menu. I would have liked to have tried some classic Thai appetizers to see how they compared.
