Always wanted to try Katsuten.

"Always wanted to try Katsuten. I arrived at around 4:30pm (they open on Sunday at 4 Pm). It was my first time at Katsuten and I am not sure what I wanted. I am also not a big Katsu fan either. I asked the server for suggestions and she suggested to try the assorted katsu. It came with the 1 cheese katsu (sliced in half), 2 tempura katsu and 1 pork loin katsu (sliced up in strips). The assorted katsu costed a bit more compared to just ordering tempura, cheese or pork loin katsu by itself. Portion size wasn't big either. The dish came with miso soup so that was nice. I ate the entire dish and was not really full full. Well this review is not about portion size. In Vancouver there is Saboten and Saku. I would say Katsuten katsu is better than both Saku and Saboten. However, the lettuce salad was not as good as Saku. Also Saku portion is way bigger than katsuten. The batter here at Katsuten was very interesting. It was very flaky, light and refreshing. I really liked the batter and that is the one reason why I am giving this place 5 stars. The rice was very fluffy. I wished they provided more sauce for the katsu. I barely had enough sauce. The pork loin was juicy and cooked well. This is something that is hard to do. Saku in Vancouver had pink and one part of the pork loin bloody. So I am impressed with Katsuten that they were able to cook the pork loin perfectly and still maintain the nice crispy flackly outside and meat juicy inside. Hands down to this place. Note that the pork loin was very tender as well. This restaurant is super small. It only has 8 tables. So be prepared to wait. There are plenty of parking outside at the front. If you like, you can park at the Richmond Shopping Center just in front. &nbsp
