I've been living in Vancouver long enough to remember this place opening as the Fraser Flamingo Restaurant several decades ago. Back then, it was one of the biggest and fanciest Chinese restaurants in the city. Fast forward a few decades, and I'm back for a...banquet. I am shocked to see how little updating has been done to the place! It looks old and tired. Needs a renovation badly. Perhaps acceptable for a won-ton restaurant, but really behind the competition for a major Chinese restaurant! The food itself was typical Chinese banquet fare--nothing outstanding, but not too bad. The service was actually pretty good as far as Chinese restaurants go. As we were attending a banquet hosted by another organization, I did not know the cost, so I can't comment on the value. But looking at the second-rate surroundings, it shouldn't have been very expensive. (Unfortunately for us, the organization hosting this also had amateur karaoke. What an aural assault all through dinner!)More
