This is a social club so I don't mind the pokey atmosphere but I would like the place to be cleaner. There was dust all of the room dividers that was up against our table. The food was overcooked. We went for the Haxen Special....The potatoes had no life left in them. They were like leathery lumps with mush inside. No salt, no herbs, nothing. The sauerkraut was the only good think on our plates. The Haxen was sad. It was dry while the fat was under-rendered. I would have liked it to be fire-roasted, cooked on a rotisserie, or otherwise touched. Haxen should make you drool when it's being placed in front of you but this just sat there like a warm lump, no aroma, no nothing. The beer was German. I liked that the radio station playing was German. The pretzel was dry and overdone and disappointing. My husband lived in Germany and I travel to the region every year. We love eating pretzels and haxen. We love the German Xmas Market in Vancouver where you can get fresh pretzels, rotisserie haxen, crispy schnitzel, and more. If they can nail it in those little tiny vendor huts outside in the cold then why can't this restaurant. We'll have to find another place for good German food.
