Once again we attempted to go to the Popeye's in Evanston and once again we patronized a non-chain restaurant instead (see my review of JPs Indian Food). We were drawn in by the adorable name and that we were in the mood for something inexpensive....Pho Nomnom hits all the right notes - fresh, cheap, fast and delicious. The interior is white and brown, contemporary but austere. There are six tables for four in the restaurant. Although it is a small space, I think they do a lot of takeout orders. Nonetheless, the service was very friendly and attentive. The menu is quite varied with vegetarian and meat dishes, pho, rice and vermicelli dishes. I had #20, the satay beef vermicelli bowl. It was quite filling and a little big for a lady ;-) However, it was beautifully presented with special house sauce. The satay had a medium spicy kick which was pleasant. My husband had #11 I think - it was a bowl of pho. I appreciated that the server asked if he wanted bean sprouts and basil as sometimes these just come with the dish and it's wasteful when they go unused. The pho was more noodles than broth and hubs enjoyed it. Dinner for two was $22.95 without tip or drinks. I would really like to go back and try some other things on the menu. It seems as long as Popeye's has a crazy long line up and little seating, all the other restaurants in the area will benefit!More
