I was at your establishment in Riverside on the night of December 14th for a party that a friend was having. This was not a private event as there were people there which were not part of our friend group. Ordering drinks from the bar,...your Bartenders were automatically charging gratuity at 23%. I challenged the Bartender as this is highway robbery. I did not get my drink served, I had to go to the bar myself and wait. This was not a private event therefore any automatic gratuity should not be charged. The bartenders said this is the standard for an event. I have never heard of 23% in Toronto. The max I have seen is 18%. What justifies this kind of predatory pricing? I wrote an email to the restaurant and the event Planner said this is not something that should have happened and the Bartenders should not be charging customers 23%. Looking at the Yelp reviews, this has happened to another customer which leads me to believe this is the practice of Boxcar Social. I would advise staying away from this establishment since they will gladly rip you off.
