This place in the village has been a regular for two of us when we are in the neighbourhood, even though service can be slow and uneven. During covid in the summer we enjoyed being able to eat outside on the nice patio. Try to...get a table leading away from Church Street, as you're away from the noisy traffic and just look across at the Second Cup patio. The pastas we have tried here have been delicious, and I'm a big fan of the salad with chicken and strawberries and pecans. Delicious. The service can be slow, with no one checking on you for a long time, although the servers when they do come have all been friendly. With colder weather lately, we have been sitting inside rather than on the patio, and noticed they must have installed a large television screen when I hadn't noticed. Why, why why are so many restaurants in the city hanging giant TV screens?. These are hideous and mar the atmosphere of a quiet meal. I understand TVs in sports bars where people want to watch games, but this is a restaurant, not a bar. I don't want to watch a glowing TV screen and news headlines while I'm trying to enjoy a quiet meal. They also have a strange choice of background music...seems to be tuned to a local radio station, which often plays hard rock with screeching electric guitars....not at all what I want to listen to during a pleasant dinner. Try some more mellow, romantic music please, like soft jazz that allows us to chat without having to talk over the music. Desserts here can be overly sweet, with servings covered in caramel sauce and whipped cream, so I've learned to ask for them plain. A nice apple tart or carrot cake is already sweet and flavorful enough and doesn't need extra sugar, _ to me at least. We will still go here because the prices are reasonable, but wish they could make some adjustments.
