Everyone is going to rave about this gem, as am I...but first I have to ask that when you go to this experience of a restaurant; (and you will!) to look beyond the obvious thrill of the senses that The Shameful Tiki Room provides you...and REALLY look at the impressively precise detail that has gone into this restaurant. I can't say that I've ever taken a photo in a bathroom, but there's a first time for everything! The detail in the restaurant carries through everywhere, and it is very impressive. Every leaf, rope, flower, bamboo, rock and carved totem is brought together to make this little paradise! Ok, so now that I've told you to keep your eyes peeled, onto the rest...This restaurant is clearly beloved by locals. I found it by Googling "Fun restaurants in Vancouver" and when a local heard me talking about it to my niece, he politely interrupted and said, "That place is the best- you have to go there...my friends and I go there every week!" That was all I needed to hear to make sure we got there. We tried to make reservations online, and it was fully booked. He advised us to get there before 5 when it opened, and wait, and we could probably get in. We almost missed it, because this little paradise it is tucked into a regular little strip mall setting on a regular street. But when we did find it, there was already a family waiting outside 20 minutes before opening. This is another part of this quirky local favorite...the people you will meet. This family with two younger children was so much fun to talk to, and their two younger children were adorable. They were so excited to be having dinner there, and they were regulars to boot. They gave us wonderful advice about drinks to order and what food to order, and everything was right on the mark! They also suggested that we eat at the bar, because it's fun to see all the activity, and we had a great time sitting there, watching all the action! The starter platter has four appetizers that you can choose from a list. We got the crab dip, the teriyaki wings, mini egg rolls and dumplings. Even when we were full, we kept eating- they were all SO delicious!!! I also got a virgin order of The Pain Killer...which was delicious- I can only imagine what the high test version would be like! The people that worked there were all super friendly and laid back, in line with the whole atmosphere. We left with full bellies, big smiles, and two t shirts :) This was really a special treat, and I really wish we had two nights in Vancouver to eat there!!! I can't wait to go back!More
