We've experienced Château Bonne Entente, where the Monte Cristo dining-room is located, several times over the years, notably for our son's wedding, plus a few special occasions. It has high standards and maintains an excellent reputation. On our last visit, we had eaten at the...Monte Cristo dining-room, a lovely, muted, sophisticated room, with white linen table cloths and corresponding table settings. This time around however, we were shown into a sports bar, with TV sets hanging on the walls, loud music, bare surfaced table tops, and diners yelling at each other to be heard. THIS is the Monte Cristo, I asked the maître D. He assured me that I wouldn't be disappointed. Okay then. Given this was an exceptional event for my husband and myself (our birthday), we decided to stay and give the food a try. We wisely chose the tasting menu, that wasn't on the written menu, but the chef made an exception for us, as well as another couple. It was an 8 course extravaganza including oysters, scallops, white asparagus, lobster, kobe beef, wild mushroom coffee (yes), and much more, all prepared and served impeccably. It turned out to be terrific value and a flavorful incursion. Would I recommend it? Well, if you can handle the noise and casual venue, you should enjoy the eating part of the experience.
