We were the "Cute Couple" dressed in matching Quebec blue sweaters, who called from a nearby tavern to inquire about last minute availability on Valentine's Day 2022. The bartender at that tavern suggested Louise, and encouraged us to take a chance despite having no reservations....The manager answered and said, sure, if you can be here in 5 minutes. We can! We travelled by foot in the far below freezing temperatures, and boy, was it worthwhile. We were seated at the "chef's table" with a view of the kitchen. It was like dinner theater, behind the scenes watching the chef and his sous chefs prepare elegant plates of delightful food. We selected a Truchard Napa cab, always amazing and a reminder of our favorite wines from California. We ordered trout sashimi, the "Gardener" since I am a vegetarian, and the beef bourguignon. Every bite was delicious! We were too full but could not skip dessert. We chose to take away goat cheesecake with clove sorbet and a cocoa puff filled with pistachio cream. These desserts travelled well on our walk home, even the sorbet. They were unique experiences, absolutely delicious. The manager dubbed us the "Cute Couple" at the "Chef's Table." The staff, the manager Jeff, the sommelier, the chefs...were amazing, each checking in on us personally. We will cherish this dining experience as much more than a meal. It was a celebration of the friendliness of Quebec City, a tribute to accessible fine dining and the fortuitous whim of last minute luck. We encourage you to pop in to Louise. It was absolutely a highlight of our weekend getaway.
