Kibune Sushi this past week joined fellow Yew Street eateries by opening an additional patio on the street. It has long had a small one, just off its location building but clearly needed more seats, given current restrictions, which only allows outside patio dinning and...takeaways. It is great addition and just perfect for the summer months. There are two socially-distanced tables in this new area and one on its established patio. In its 39th year, Kibune is a popular food location, where one can be assured of good Japanese food and excellent service, a combination provided by its chef/owner and his nephew, who came over from Japan to join the business some years ago. They share the food creation, with the chef/owner doing the sashimi and sushi and his nephew looking after the cooked dishes, as well as providing gracious and excellent service. It has over the past 14th months maintained a brisk business in takeaway, and opening and closing for in-dinning, as allowed by government regulation. Its outdoor patio gives customers a great new choice and nestles in nicely across the way from those set up earlier by its neighbors, Nook and The Local. I was able to get one of its new tables outside with not too long a wait. It was a sunny evening and there was a general feeling of happiness in the ocean-side neighborhood on this Mothers’Day Sunday. I had a tasty craft beer in a can, a good choice at 7:50$ for watching the light of the day fade. I had its salmon sashimi, which was wonderfully fresh and a significant portion. It was 21$. I had the tuna nigiri sushi, which was also fresh and tasty. It was 16$. Here is how this new addition works. Diners order and pay at the front of the restaurant, and then take their food and beverages out to the table they have secured. Kibune being the place it is seems still to keep an eye on guests. I wanted some more soy sauce and happily this desire caught the attention of the nephew server, who promptly bought me two sachets. My bill came to 47.48$ before tip. I will return for more, soon.
