We are long, long time Kobe patrons and have only had one poor meal (early on during Covid) in the course of 30+ years. Our meals on the weekend were excellent and the service was very good - all as expected. We were three couples,...each with an Entertainment coupon, and I paid the bill. I was having a great time and wasn't really paying attention to the bill or its contents. The server passed me the wireless POS terminal with the tip screen showing, I added an 18% tip and was about to tap my card to pay the $371 total when I noticed a mud pie on the bill - no one ordered dessert. The server apologized and took the bill away to remove the dessert. When she came back and presented the bill and terminal again with the tip screen up, my husband was paying attention and noticed that a $57 Service charge was already on the bill. When I asked if that was a tip, the server reluctantly admitted that it was in fact a tip (and had been applied to the pre-discount amount). We always tip on the pre-discount amount so that was not the issue. The bill itself also has a box directly under the total, which includes the Service fee, showing the "Suggested Gratuity" She had not advised me either time the bill was presented that a tip is already included the total and deceptively presented me with the POS terminal showing the tip screen. I'm not sure what was on the first bill that the total came to $371 but either way, she was going to come away with a hefty tip (++$110). I have no idea how many times we've been duped but we are very, very disappointed with what was one of the family favourites.
