It seems like everywhere you go nowadays, Chinese restaurants are offering lobster sticky rice. If you’ve never had this before, it’s exactly what it sounds like… a big serving of sticky rice with lobster. Sticky rice is a serious comfort food and lobster just kicks...up the luxuriousness of it all. Golden Eats Seafood Restaurant is located on the busy Kingsway corridor, roughly opposite of Ning Tu. The interior is fairly nice with orange painted wall contrasted by the brown tables and the interesting rectangular chandelier. Unlike some restaurants, the Lobster Sticky Rice was a set price ($54.95) – this guarantees you that you’re not going to be getting a huge lobster. On top of this large wooden pot was an impressive display of glistening lobster that covered the massive amount of sticky rice underneath. While there was an ample amount of (very sticky) sticky rice mixed with corn niblets and onions, it wasn’t overly sauce which made some bites a bit dry. We ordered a plate of Pea Tips ($18) to try to balance out our meal. The pan-fried pea tips with garlic had a bit of a peppery aftertaste. Last up was an order of Mui Choy Kau Yuk ($18.80) served on a bed of napa. I thought this turned out pretty well even though there were some parts of the pork that weren’t as fatty as I’d prefer. Perhaps a longer cooking time would have helped. Like many Chinese restaurants, you have to look at the menu on the wall if you want to order some of their specials.
