I specifically wanted to go here after having looked for Vietnamese places on TripAdvisor., as I love that cuisine and we unfortunately don't have a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in Cape Town. First little disappointment was that we were looking for a relaxed sit-down lunch,...with some wine ideally, and at Hoang Long it's more a fast food style place you have to stand in a line then order yourself and you get buzzed when it's ready, grab a drink from the fridge and of you go. Obviously not their fault, just our misunderstanding. It was just after the main Canadian lunch time (we tend to go a bit later for lunch than the locals, not before 1pm) so the place looked like a bomb had just exploded and we struggled a bit to find a clear table. I eventually found one that I cleared myself, but the table was covered in sticky soy or fish sauce or whatever and it wasn't too easy to attract the not overly friendly waitress if she could please give me a cloth to clean the table (at no point did she consider this should maybe be her job, not mine, but never mind, I just wanted to sit down) The nearby washroom provided me with paper towels and water in the end (if I would have waited for the waitress to come to our help I would probably still have been sitting there waiting...), so table cleared and cleaned....eventually our food was ready, but unfortunately, that of my husband's (who was already not too impressed with the place so far) , spicy beef on jasmine rice, was cold. He couldn't be bothered to bring it back so just had two bites. My seafood soup was nice be it a bit bland so I had to add a lot of soy sauce to give it some taste, but that can obviously just be a personal thing. I was planning to come back for the Vietnamese spring rolls, but unfortunately didn't make it any more before my departure so that will have to wait til next time.
