The location is away from the tourist area of Vieux Montreal, and is on a non-descript street. And the outside is not impressive. But this restaurant has been in this part of town for three years now. We came here based on a recommendation of...personnel from a restaurant in Vieux Montreal. Mauvais in French means "bad", as in "good" ... and in that sense it is a "bad" restaurant! We came on a Tuesday night at 7pm. Although we made reservations, mot sure it was needed. By 8:30pm the restaurant was perhaps half full. But that was actually nice, as it gave us more of a chance to talk to the waiter and others. The night we ate they were having a 50% off on some selected bottles of wine. We selected a very nice "Folle Blanche" French Loire white wine. Food selection is tapas style dinner. For my wife and I, we selected 4 entrees, each delicious. We started with their "torched" salmon with miso, cucumber, pickled radish, which was probably our favorite entree. We also had their house "MG fries" with parmesan and truffles. We them moved to ricotta gnocchi served with a nice white wine sauce, and seared scallops with a fennel citrus salad. All were delicious. We ended our dinner splitting a white chocolate creme brulee, with coffee. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly, and would recommend this restaurant to people who wanted something different and unique, and certainly not "touristy". Our bill was $105CA before tip.
