We have been regular visitors at The Cannery for years and we were so disappointed when it closed almost 10 years ago. As many have mentioned here, the lobster oil/balsamic mixture with their sourdough bread was always a great start to any meal. So after...their closure, we heard PP opened up in our neighbourhood. We thought about trying it out as we heard many of the Cannery staff were now there. That was good to hear. With some restaurants that did an overhaul or revival, they do not match the expectations of the original. This one did except....(will get to that later). This was a birthday dinner on a Thursday night. As restaurants reopen amidst COVID restrictions lifted we were a bit hesitant of going out to any restaurant. Parking is plentiful in the surrounding neighbourhood and upon entering TeddyBear greeted us with his glistening eyes and warm, soft demeanour. We sterilized our heads at the front door and was escorted to our reserved spot. Our 2 teens were with my wife and I. They gazed around the room and commented on the non-Cannery decor. That's OK. We were there for the food. After 5 minutes of settling in, TeddyBear brought us our long-awaited for bread and oil. Mmmmm. Memories came flooding back in of great meals and views of the Vancouver harbour. The kids selected an appetizer of calamari and we chose 3 mains to share: Arctic Char with vegetables on a lobster sauce and mash (special of the day) Scallops and prawns on basmati rice and cream sauce and Cedar plank wild salmon EVERYTHING was outstanding. The kids raved about the salmon and perfectly cooked veggies (yup - my kids love veggies!) and we gobbled up each piece of calamari (their tartar/tzatziki sauce was very good). The portions are on the larger size and we had to pack almost a full meal home. Price-wise they are on the higher side. None of us could fit another mouthful to even consider the dessert menu. We waited 10 years before trying PP and we kicked ourselves for that. Don't wait. P.S. Now getting back to the 'look and feel'. The first big difference is you are not on the shoreline with the amazing views of the North Shore. Rather you are in a wood-filled pub/tavern type atmosphere with seafaring collectibles strewn around the restaurant (ropes, plastic lobsters, brass this and that). This still doesn't take away the top-notch food and quality you will enjoy here. Highly recommended.
