We walked past Na Jia on Beach Avenue, just strolling through False Creek. It's been years since we've been down there, and I could not believe what a beautiful city Vancouver has become. I never really quite appreciated it the same way when I lived...there. Anyways, my husband wanted to check out the menu. I was skeptical at first, because Na Jia looks like a very expensive restaurant. While there are very expensive items on it, some of it was quite affordable. We ordered the yogurt fish galeti because it looked so cute, and ended up raving about it. It was delicious, sweet, kind of a sweet milk jello. The broad bean noodle dish was super garlicky. If you love garlic, you'll love this. We did! The diced almond chicken was very spicy. Again, if you love spice, which we do, you'll love this. We ate on the patio and felt like royalty. The decor of the restaurant is gorgeous, the menu is actually a thick book with professional photos, and the service was friendly. Well, our server didn't speak any English, and we had to repeat our order several times. And then our order didn't all arrive, so she sent someone else to interpret for her, and there was a mix up where they didn't charge for our drinks (which I made sure to point out to them--if they overcharged, I'd do the same) but it was all part of the whole experience. I normally would have ignored this place, thinking that I didn't want to pay outrageous prices, because it does look like a very high end restaurant. With the decor, view, friendly service and generous servings of very un-Canadian Chinese dishes, we were really impressed. I'd say that Na Jia is a hidden gem in False Creek.
