Vancouver has seen a significant decline in the number of Ethiopian restaurants from a high point around 10 years ago. There are still a couple on Commercial Drive, although I had never tried Harambe before. I was very pleasantly surprised with both the food and...atmosphere. Larger than many of these generally family run restaurants, there were a number of vegetarian and vegan offerings amongst the menu items and a pretty good drinks menu at surprisingly low prices. I found the food well flavored, much the usual fare for Ethiopian cuisine but well prepared and tasty with quick and courteous service. Far better than I expected given other reviews I had seen of the place. It is open for lunch a few days a week, which is nice because no other Ethiopian restaurant on the Drive still offers lunch during the week. It was relatively crowded which is a good sign as maybe this restaurant can reverse the decline in popularity of Ethiopian food. I really enjoyed my meal and will definitely return.
