I went there a second time with family. We made our reservation for 5 pm and were the first table there. They gave us tea first. Once we made up our minds, we waited a few minutes for the waitress, but she didn't come by...so we had to flagged her at 5:30 pm. We were still the only customers there. We asked her to take our order and refill the tea pot to refill but it wasn't done right away even though we were the only customers. We waited a bit before asking her again. The food came out in good time, and was tasty. However, I noticed the underside of the crab shell did not have the crab matter which my parents love to eat. My family questioned them about it. The lady who busses the tablesexplained that some crabs don't have a lot of crab matter (which is totally untrue but we didn't want to tell her that. Then the waitress came by and explained that they normally remove the crab matter from the shell because it has high cholesterol and a lot of people don't eat it. Also untrue. It is a delicacy. Later on the lady boss manager comes by with same explanation as the waitress. I appreciate all of their explanation, but we were not convinced. We will give them the benefit of the doubt. However, it seems really odd because 99% of Chinese restaurants serve the crab shell with the crab matter intact, as it serves two purposes: 1 to prove to the customers that it is a fresh crab and 2. it is a delicacy and tasty. So we weren't sure if they were telling the truth. We suggested they should ask the customer beforehand to see if customer wanted it or not rather than removing it. We were a little disappointed by the missing crab matter. My parents think that they scraped it off to use for soup or sauce. In any event, it is highly suspicious, and if they were 're-using' the crab shells, then I worry about how sanitary it is (not saying that is what they did, just wondering). For now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and will ask them to leave the crab matter in when we eat there the next time. However, I would not be surprised if they buy crab legs only from their supplier and include the shell to make it look like it came from a fresh crab. When the restaurant was previously Rose Garden, their crab shells were also missing the crab matter and some of their crab shells were so clean. I hope this is not the case. I hope they are not reusing crab shells to lie to customers as the shells would be unsanitary. If you like crab matter, you better tell them ask them to leave the crab matter in.
