Let me start by saying I am not one for leaving poor reviews. I have also worked in the service industry so I know how difficult it can be to deal with people all day but this experience takes the biscuit. So, I met a...friend (who is vegan and doesn't drink alcohol) for a coffee one evening. The place we were planning to go to wasn't open so we went to the 3 speed. They don't serve tea or coffee and neither of us wanted an alcoholic drink. We ordered appetisers we didn't really want just so we felt justified in using a table. We waited ages to be served in a more or less empty bar. The server seemed to be chatting a to a gentleman at the bar and acted like we were a complete inconvenience. She then spoke to my friend like she was an idiot after she asked some straight forward questions about the menu. We saw her pull a face as she walked away. We felt really unwelcome at this point. Then the food came down and we had no cutlery. I had ordered soup which came with bread and she had given me no spoon or knife. I tried to get her attention and she saw me but ignored me and continued chatting. Eventually I walked up to her and politely asked for cutlery and she handed it to me aggressively without apologizing. Then I sit back down and realise there is no butter for the bread. Queue the same saga. She also gave my freind bacon instead of the vegan item even though she made my friend feel difficult for stressing that she was vegan. At this point we were pretty mad about how we were treated so when the bill came we both decided not to tip. The bill was less than $20 and we had been there no longer than 30 mins (most of that time was spent waiting/leaving our seats to go find our waitress). I am aware not tipping is a huge faux pas and this is the first time I have not given a tip maybe ever. At the end of the day, a tip is my right to give and the waitress was not only unattentive but down right rude! She then FOLLOWED US OUT ON TO THE STREET and shouted at us for not tipping! My friend and I both live in Toronto and have done for years but are clearly not from here. She made a comment about "we tip in Toronto" which had an air of condescension and almost xenophobia about it. I have never been followed out of a bar by a staff member and abused before in my life. Absolutely deplorable. My friend and I are non-confrontational and were both quite shaken. I have never returned to the 3 Speed despite it being local and I never would return.
