We popped in to Pacifico when we realized the Indian place down the block had closed (we’ll miss you, Ginger Garlic). We’d been in before, for a quick tasty lunch but this was our first dinner experience. We were seated quickly by a friendly hostess...who had just sat a group of 6, although a server had walked right by us standing at the door & didn’t even acknowledge us as she rummaged through the desk at which we waited. The room itself is on a split level. Doors were propped open & several fans were going - it was hot & stuffy. There was no air conditioning. The same server who had ignored us at the door also served us. She seemed like she didn’t enjoy her job. No smile. No pleasantries. We ordered drinks, but the server returned to say they were out of the ale on tap that my husband ordered. Our food order, a Vesuvius pizza & spaghetti carbonara, was out quickly. The pizza was fantastic & we’d order it again. The pancetta in the carbonara was big hunks of it & was tough & chewy in some instances. We wouldn’t order it a second time. Our server never returned to our table after dropping the food to see how it was. She never offered chilli flakes, parmesan cheese or another round of drinks. We had to wave our credit card to request the bill, even though plates & glasses had sat empty for a while. (It wasn’t that busy in there; we were early diners.) When she did come by with the bill, she stood, without saying a word. When I asked her a question, she replied that she didn’t know & had only lived here a month. So, in a nutshell - the pizza saved the trip & my advice to that server would be to find another line of work. Pacifico, there is a lot of competition in this neighbourhood- raise your standards or you’ll go the way of that spot down the block.
