Located right on MacLeod Tr in the same building as Smugglers and Bolero is this revamped bistro type restaurant. There is plenty of parking around the building and on the streets. It has only been open as Frank's for about 8 weeks, so my wife,...son and I decided to give it a go. First off, while they do have a large beer selection, most of this is in bottles or cans and only two appear on draught. Second, their small wine list has wineries I have never heard of with no indication of what country they are from (although, some grapes, like malbec, do give you a clue). Anyway, we ordered one each of the draughts, a blonde and a Wild Rose brown, while my son stuck with water. Service was very good and friendly and attentive. My wife is allergic to shellfish and my son is gluten intolerant, so we went through a list of questions about the food, some of which our waitress, Lindsay, had to go off to find the answers to. The menu is an interesting mix of sharing and single serve items. We ordered the haloumi cheese and the brussels sprouts sharing plates to start while we were trying to decide on mains. The brussels were excellent, grilled with bacon and sliced in half. The haloumi cheese was a take on breaded mozzarela sticks, with a slightly differnt, but very good, taste. We enjoyed both appetizers and rated them a very strong 4 out of 5, some argument as to a 5 on the brussels. For mains, My son had the toast on gluten free bread (three small pieces of bread, one with wild mushroom, one with beets and one with turkey), choose three out of six options. They were all very good and he rated them as a strong 4. My wife had the chicken and waffle, chicken thighs cooked perfectly and great waffles according to her. I had the traditional breakfast bowl, two sausages, bacon, brisket, potatoes and two eggs with Hollandaise sauce. The bowl was great, especially the sausage, but cutting the sausage and the bacon was made difficult because of the bowl. This dish would be made a lot better either served on a plate or in a bowl with the sausages cut up. Some of the best Hollandaise I ever had rounded this out and give it a strong 4. After our meal, I had a coffee and my wife ordered th cinnamon bun sundae, a cinnamon bun, sliced in two, with a scoop of homemade ice cream between the slices and covered by a sweet sauce. I had the fruit pie, the one that day was a sour cherry pie. It not only was superb, but it was huge. As I said up above, service was great, thank you, Lindsay. The bill, before tip, was $72, very reasonable for what we got, almost a bargain for dinner in Calgary. Definitely, a place we will come back to, and a place you should try.
