I sometimes think its unfair to write a review of a restaurant during Covid-19 because we probably aren't seeing them at their best. It can be hard to get a good staff working for you, there might not be a full menu and most of...the inside eating area is probably closed down. This was most likely the case for eating at this restaurant but even then - they managed to rise above everything....mostly. We wanted to go out for a friends belated birthday and she chose this place, as its one of her favourite places to go in the Junction. I was familiar with the owners other restaurant/bar, Mugshots, and really liked going there in the past - so I thought we should give this place a chance. The main eating area was closed so we were lead down through the basement and out the back into an alley and then over to an outside patio behind the restaurant. It was pretty spacious and had lots of tables and outdoor lighting. Our server, who seemed quite young, informed us of the food that wasn't available that night so we wouldn't get our hopes up if we saw it on the menu and wanted to order it. They have a great selection of beers, spirits and wine. My wife and I ordered the Vegan BBQ Jackfruit sandwich ($19), which came on a nice bun and had a tangy pineapple BBQ sauce and vegan slaw. My wife loved it - I thought it was okay, a little too sweet for my taste. One of my friends had the Fried Chicken Sandwich ($20) that was huge and she said was very tasty. My other friend had the Swiss Mac N' Cheese ($21) and he absolutely raved about how loaded with cheese it was. But the hit of the evening had to be my order of Avalanche Fries ($15) that I had as an appetizer. It was a huge portion of seasoned fries topped with a 3-cheese sauce, pork belly, crispy onions and a tangy BBQ sauce. It's big enough to share and was really tasty!! Highly Recommended!! as well as the night was going however, our server seemed to lose interest in serving us and on several occasions she simply forgot to bring drinks that we had ordered until we reminded her. It happened to all of us and it was really annoying, especially when you want something to drink to accompany your food. That was a real shame as it really was a damper on what had started out as a lovely evening. I'm sure that as the Covid restriction ease that they will be back up to running as usual and if we decide to go again that we will get the kind of service that my friends had raved about in the past. Still, if you're ever in the Junction, check out this cozy little spot and you just have to try those avalanche fries!More
