We walked along Sparks Street and chanced upon Queen St. Fare, across from the front of the CBC Canada building. It is no light fare, as far as what you’ll see and want to eat. Queen St. was full of lively action and good live...jazz, around 6:30 pm on a weekday. There were many choices of food stations, but one shared help-yourself water station with cups and washrooms by the sprawling seating area. My family liked the Pad Thai noodles at Sen Kitchen, and the pizzas were good at Fiazza. I liked the price of their fresh salad with goat cheese, and the pizza had great toppings—everything for $20 tax-in. The dough was freshly rolled and not bad at all. My chicken breast on rice “Buddha Bowl” at Green Rebel was nutritiously tasty (just the way I’d ordered it with Kimchee instead of peanut sauce). I would say the wait in line was much shorter than at Fiazza, plus the desserts were better at Green Rebel. The Mexican food at Mercadito looked good (at a reasonable price), and surprisingly, drew more of a crowd than the burgers as a local option. The best thing, too, is everything is sold either compostable or recyclable in Queen St. In fact, there is no “waste” bin to be found, anywhere. Now that’s a systems-approach worth keeping!More
