We live in Quebec City, and this used to be one of my favourite restaurants in town. I've never had bad service here before, but today was beyond imaginable! Thanks to a last-minute decision to go out for his birthday, my fiance and I arrived...at around 7:00 with no reservation. It appeared there were only two servers, and one came to tell us that it would be about five minutes before they would know if they had a table for us. When we arrived they were cleaning a table for four and two tables for two, so we thought it wouldn't be a problem. The couple in front of us was seated, so we thought we'd be next. Then, a group of four arrived, also with no reservation. The first server never came back to speak to us, but a second server seated two other couples who had reservations. That wasn't the problem. After we had waited for at least 20 minutes, a couple with an 8:00 reservation arrived early. The couple, along with the two of us, watched as the server escorted the group of four that had no reservation to a "table" for four. It was actually two tables pushed together. The server then never came back to speak to us. Meanwhile, it had been well beyond the original five minutes we were told to wait to know if we'd even have a table. We and the couple were completely baffled that, rather than separating the two tables and making room for those of us that had been there first, the server had blatantly taken the group of four with no reservation. They knew it would be a bigger order, I'm sure, but it was insulting. They didn't apologize or even address us at all. The other couple chastized the waiter for not separating the tables. I, too, finally approached him and pointed out that he could have separated the tables, but he just argued back at me. I informed him I would leave a poor review, and he continued to argue that there were no tables. Both we and the couple with the reservation turned around and walked out. What this waiter didn't realize is that he not only lost four clients, but we may not go back at all. And being local, we can spread the word to others. However, the place is always packed, so I'm sure he's not worried about losing a few clients. I guarantee they won't reply to this review, let alone read it, judging from prevous comments here about rude service that have gone unanswered. I should also add that anyone planning a party at this place should also be wary. While we were standing there in the entrance, a customer came down from the party room upstairs and said something to me, in passing, about being upstairs, "but they don't want us there". I wasn't sure what he meant until I watched a large group of people, glasses of wine in hand, file down the stairs to a large, freshly cleared table in the downstairs dining area. It was strange. Who makes an entire party move after they've already poured the wine?! Seriously, think twice before eating here!More
