We moved into the area about a year ago from Toronto, and were thrilled to find the huge patio and great looking menu at The Powerhouse just up the road from us! The historic building is gorgeous, and the staff are always friendly and efficient....We had high hopes that we'd found our new local! Unfortunately the experience is marred by mediocre food at very premium prices. I guess I don't expect to pay downtown Toronto, upscale gastropub prices for very average pub fare an hour outside the city. You can't even get away with just snacking on apps, because the prices for apps are pretty much the same as entrees. We really liked the location, atmosphere and staff, and so we kept going back- trying new dishes each time. We realized prices were probably a bit inflated due to the lower pandemic traffic, and we were determined to find something there that worked for us! But after trying about half the menu, and never feeling we were getting what we should for the price point, we felt demotivated. When we returned the last time and discovered they had reduced the size of the burgers, to a not-quite-a-slider-but-defintely-not-a-full-size-burger, at the same price as they used to be ...we decided to stop trying. If the food was either more reasonably priced, or far better quality it would be a wonderful place. But, alas. They do, however, do an excellent job of presenting the food on the plate! It always looks fantastic when it arrives at the table! It's just all really meh from there. And I'm not saying the food is BAD. It's perfectly serviceable. But it's VERY average pub fare at VERY inflated prices. So, if you want a nice place to have drinks - Powerhouse is an excellent choice!! They have a lovely selection of beers, and as I said the building is gorgeous, the patio is massive and bright, and the staff are really great. But if you also want to eat, I'd strongly recommend finding a different place.
