We have avoided Earls for sometime, but we felt that it was time to revisit this location off of Crowchild Trail in Dalhousie. This is a nice location with a more open feel to it, the bar is separated by a large TV on a...number of pillars. I know that during the summer this location has a great patio. Being a Sunday I was expecting a larger crowd, but we could have just missed the rush. We started our evening with the Lump Crab cakes. We try these everywhere we go, as my partner is, um, picky with her food choices and this is one of the dishes she will eat. I am not exaggerating when I state that I have not had a better crab cake. They were tall. Crisp on the top and bottom. Yet succulent and full of crab in the middle. The sauce worked so well with the crab...my mouth is drooling just writing this. We then had our entree, we each had one of the salmon dishes. The cajun crusted salmon was juicy perfectly seasoned bite. We switched out the rice for the mashed potatoes, and having a little of each on your fork was heaven. This is the starch that should be served with this fish. However, this is where the star is lost. The other dish was the Feta caper aioli on roasted salmon, and it was over cooked, almost to the point of being dry. The flavours were great, but this chef would have had to pack their knives if they were in competition with the cajun salmon chef. Our server was great and offered to make us happy by replacing the dish. The flavours were good, just the execution failed. We told her to relax. We will be back as this was a great evening rediscovering what was once our favourite restaurants.
