I’ve been to this place twice for lunch. As it’s located in the business district, lunchtime is quite busy. Reservation is highly recommended. At these two lunches, we tried some sushi pieces, chirashi, sukiyaki, unagi don and etc. We were generally satisfied with the quality...and taste of food. It’s definitely value for money. HOWEVER, the service is not what I would have expected from a high level Japanese restaurant. Everything was rushed. The staff were inattentive and unfriendly. When I tried to pay at the counter, this staff was genuinely annoyed even after I explained to her that I had seen one customer paying at the counter on my way in. She just blankly told me that I was wrong and I should’ve waited at the table! Japanese cuisine isn’t just about food, Japanese way of hospitality (Omotenashi) is a big part of Japanese experience. In my opinion Kamei failed big in this aspect.
