I was looking for a nearby and affordable place to take my kids for dinner. I went through my Entertainment book and noticed I had a coupon for Eight 1/2. Reviews on TripAdvisor on Yelp looked OK so I gave it try. We parked on...the street which cost $1/hr before 6pm and $2/hr after 6pm. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Sat and the place was about half full, but some tables were reserved. We still got a table immediately though. We decided to share a bunch of appetizers: - Baked Brie - Good. It’s rare to see a dish like this in Vancouver anymore. It was warm so the brie spread easily on the bread . Honey only had a touch of sambal so that was nice. It’s a Mealshare item so it contributes to those in need. - Steak Bites - OK. Cooked to the stated medium rare, but nothing extraordinary about it. - Oven Baked Wings - Good. Simply prepared (with salt and pepper) and very plump meat. - Mini Perogies - OK. Didn’t taste much different from frozen ones I could make at home. Menu states caramelized onions, but all I saw were raw onion slivers. Did come with a salad, so it could be a meal on its own. Service was OK. Friendly enough, but never did a food check though. Overall, food was simple and relatively good. I appreciate their focus on sustainability and staying local as well as participating in Mealshare. Service was only OK. This is definitely a local neighbourhood spot and would not be considered a foodie destination. The Entertainment coupon and Groupon makes this place that much more affordable, so would consider coming back. Rating is 3.25.
