The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization states that food security “exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life”.
Food security is not just a poverty issue; it is a much larger issue that involves the whole food system and affects every one of us in some way. Food security happens when all people at all times have access to enough food that:

- is culturally acceptable

- is obtained in a dignified manner
