Dale and Linda Stevanus are helping promote the ‘buy local’philosophy through the Stevanus Family Farm's Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) program. The Stevanus’ pesticide-free vegetables are grown on the fertile, loamy soil of Bloomingdale, Ontario. Market gardening wasn’t really part of the Stevanus’ overall family plan.It all started when the Stevanus’ garden produced more corn than the Stevanus children could eat. The first year the surplus corn was sold from one of their wagons. The next year, even more corn and other vegetables were planted and soon there was an abundance of produce.

The Stevanus’ CSA program began in 2008 and is still in the‘fine tuning’ stage. However,Linda Stevanus maintains that both their customers and the local farmers have benefitted from the 100-mile diet. The customer benefits through agricultural awareness and quality home-grown produce. The farmer benefits by receiving a fair price for the products that are grown whilefulfilling their passion for farming.

In addition to the CSA program, Stevanus Family Farm also supplies local produce to several local restaurants.
