Specialties

At The Mitchell Block you’ll find a truly authentic dining experience. We are a small, independently owned and operated Restaurant in the heart of Winnipeg’s East Exchange District. Our team all share a deeply rooted passion for great food and gracious hospitality. This can be seen in our professional yet jovial waitstaff, our choice of fresh local ingredients and the time we spend making exceptional house made pastas. Whether you’re just stopping by for a glass of wine or cocktail before the show, are meeting with a potential client or celebrating over dinner with family, you’ll be glad you’re here. We also specialize in private dining events. For a more relaxed dining experience try our new sister eatery, the Wet and Dry Dept. on the second floor.

History

Established in 2013.

The Mitchell Block Restaurant, is named after the original designation of the historic building that houses the eatery. The Restaurant was Chef Sean McKay’s dream, made reality through the hard work of his friends, family and Father, who all graciously contributed in every way imaginable. We are an independently owned, small restaurant with large aspirations of making our mark on Winnipeg’s amazing culinary scene.

This is hands down some of the finest, unconventional cuisine available in Winnipeg.

This is hands down some of the finest, unconventional cuisine available in Winnipeg. Everything is fresh and made in house. The pasta, the ricotta cheese all made in house. Even the mustard seeds in the aioli of Crispy Fried Brussel Sprouts was made in house. I’ve never seen this level of originality in a Winnipeg restaurant. It reminded me of NYC. I highly recommend the lounge upstairs for a laidback feel. They genuinely care about your dining experience, so skip Johnny G’s next door and get some real food.

Was recommended this place by a fellow traveller. Small quaint restaurant with interesting food options. Had a red sangria and a lime gin drink with egg yolk. They were ok, but nothing special. We had a bench booth by the front. It was so narrow I felt I was going to fall off, not sure how my companion managed with it. I had the lamb shank, it well prepared but missing flavour. Supposed to have a mint sauce but couldn’t taste it. The lemon Beignets were delicious. Also had the cheesecake. Tiny portions.
