Franca’s Perfect Gifts & Cafe Italia

Edmonton Trail has many restaurants but this small establishment is off the beaten track being close to McKnight. So welcoming and the food is so delicious! Our hostess Franca made us feel like we were like family in her kitchen. Menu is not overly long…or complicated. Appetizers were delicious – Burratta was like butter and jalapeños/garlic were super spicy. Mains were all outstanding – the beef tenderloin melted in our mouths and the lamb was cooked to perfection. Desserts too were wonderful – yes we had a bit of room left over for sweets. Excellent wine list . All in all, a delicious dining experience.

The COVID lockdown has done nothing to reduce the quality of Franca’s since our last visit. Like coming home for a family dinner! Set menu for Valentine’s Day was amazing. Burratta salad followed by lobster ravioli , then a butter soft beef tenderloin and if…that wasn’t enough the lightest and tastiest strawberry cheesecake imaginable! BravoMore

Franca’s is an undiscovered diamond in a sea of mediocrity. The restaurant provides superior Italian food comparable and often exceeding the best available throughout Western Canada. The taste of lamb, chicken, fish, pasta along with outstanding service makes for a memorable meal. I will not…visit Calgary without eating here, previous visit was with a business group, unanimous opinion on leaving,….best place in Calgary.
