My family and I, have been to Benkei well over 50 times. We have even won a competition here. We come back to Vancouver every summer and are never disappointed for this amazing ramen. The Shio Ramen is excellent, not too salty but just right….They’re pork gyoza is amazing with the right mix of ingredients that just can’t be made at home. Excellent place! Look forward to seeing you there! :DMore
Large bowls of delicious ramen and other noodles. Gyoza equally good, as was the service. Great value for dinner in Vancouver. We visited the location in the West End on Robson.
Benkei is a great place for a budget meal. Located on Robson Street just east of the corner of Denman, the small shop serves up hearty bowls of ramen at a decent price. They also offer 3 different types of gyoza. I had the shrimp…gyoza. It was perfectly done. I had miso ramen with char siu. The broth was lovely, full of miso flavor without being overly salty. The ramen noodles were perfectly done. They had nice texture–al dente, not mushy or overcooked. Service was very quick and efficient. They were also very polite. The table next to mine was giving the server a difficult order and she handled it very well. I will definitely be returning to Benkei when I come back to Vancouver. If you want good ramen and can’t get to Japan, this is a good place to come.
Restaurant has shut down and Japanese Spaghetti is now there. Restaurant has shut down and Japanese Spaghetti is now there.
We had been wanting to try a ramen place and figured that Vancouver was the best place in Canada to do so. The place is nothing to rave about but the service was incredible, they apologized for the 3 minute wait before ordering and getting…our food. The noodles were everything we were hoping they would be and it was generally a great mealMore
I’m a big ramen fan. Benkei is a worthwhile noodle shop. The inside is like most ramen/noodle restaurants: small-ish, wood tables and seats/benches, and a little noisy due to the size (don’t plan on relaxed conversation here). The shoyu ramen was white and milky, the…way it should be. The broth was unctuous and left that light fatty residue on the lips that only rendered marrow seems to be capable of (the marrow is completely liquified, so no worries for the texture-shy). The chashu (pork belly) was spot on, salty and fatty to pair with the fresh noodles. My wife’s akaoni ramen was spicy without too much kick. All the side dishes (gyoza and kimchi) were clearly made in house as well. We were just passing through or we’d be regulars every time a ramen fix hit us.
My friend and I went for dinner, we both got the shio ramen, and found it quite delicious. Seating in the restaurant is relatively tight. But I would definitely go back if I’m around the area.
This used to be our favorite ramen restaurant on Robson until Santouka opened. The service is always good and the quality of the food solid. It’s still a good back up if Santouka is too crowded.
Small, cozy environment, service has generally been good, however the manager lady or boss has not been the most pleasant our last couple visits. Getting tired? The waitresses have turned over as well so some new ones learning the ropes. They have been ok. The…noodles are terrific as are the various stocks. We usually get Shoyu and Shio. Have also tried the Akaoni which is good if you like a spicy variation. Very quick service and we are usually in and out in less than 40mins. Delicious, Enjoy!More
