I met a friend here for a lingering lunch - have always loved the atmosphere of this sweet little restaurant, and years ago, also loved the food. I'm not sure what's gone on, but having had a disappointing lunch a year ago, thought I'd give...it one last go before I washed my hands of the place. This lunch was it. We shared the chicken liver mousse as a starter, which was fine. My date had the bavette a l'échalotte (beef) with split fries and salad. It wasn't beautiful, but it was cooked as she'd asked, and though I saw her struggling to cut it, she said it was "fine." I had the fish special, which was ridiculously plated, with tepid brussel sprouts strangely dotting the perimeter of the plate, the middle of which held a piece of halibut (I think) that was still partially cold in the centre. Uncooked, tough. Not just ... not good. Gross. When I got two bites in - to the cold part - I had to send it back. They brought it back out but by then I'd been well and truly put off my lunch. They took my dish off the bill, but our lunch wasn't inexpensive, even with only one of us having eaten at all. Sparkling water, one shared starter, one entree, two capuccinos. The service was great, the atmosphere as charming as ever, the coffee is good. But the food here? Not only is it vastly overpriced, it's far from good. I was sad to realize that this place is well and truly off my list of places to eat in the neighbourhood.
