For the past little while I have been on a Mission! My mission is to re-discover the remaining HK Style Cafes in the Greater Vancouver area. Once a popular genre ( or variation of Chinese cuisine in Vancouver ), it has its golden days when...just in Chinatown alone there are at least a dozen or so of this type of restaurants, but with the demise of Hong Kong immigrants coming to Canada, this also is on the decline. i Cafe has been one of the "newer" ones about 15 years ago, but now it is one of the remaining "originals". Food here is of good quality and portion size, the price is at par with most others, a few items may be slightly more expensive due to its location on the West side of Vancouver. Star items: Grilled Steak with Black Peppercorn Sauce ( served on sizzling hot plate ) Rich and pungent, the sauce is the soul of this dish, the steak here is of good quality and I would say its even safe to order it medium rare. I also like the accompanying fries, dipping them in the peppercorn sauce is heaven! Most of their HK style baked dishes are also recommended: Baked Fish Fillet with Spinach in Cream sauce is another classic done very well here, with the sauce being not to heavy and is just perfect with the fried rice that comes with it. I am glad that after all these years, there are still a solid HK Style Cafe left in the West side of Vancouver!!More
