We went to Cuchillo at happy hour last night. The four of us all gave the experience thumbs up. There is a youthful energy from the moment I walked in. Twenty-somethings fill the group tables near the front door and it is a mix of...loud music and happy banter. The low lighting, exposed brick, and sculpted sculls give this Mexican restaurant a unique feel. The wait staff was friendly but slow throughout our stay. Our waitress apologized but really was not attentive throughout our meal. The food is what will bring us back. We had four items off the ANTOJITOS menu (appetizers) The creamy white bean Queso Fundido and the chunky house quacamole both came with corn chips. Both excellent. The chorizo verde Scotch egg was good -- but don't expect to see any Chorizo. The winner was the dish of pan-fried brussel sprouts. Really tasty. All dishes discounted 25% for happy hours, as were our drinks -- $4 lagers and $8 margauritas. The beer was basic but the ladies felt their cocktails were over-powered by the ice and there wasn't much alchol in there. We also had tacos. They come two to a plate for $12, so we split these having one each. The ladies had the roasted cauliflower tacos with almond date butter and roasted tomatoe ginger jam. How good does that sound? Lived up to expectation. Ever better were the grilled Angus skirt steak tacos with blueberry habanero jam and crispy polenta. I'd swear that there were chunks of bacon that made it chrispy and tasty. A must-have the next time we return. Happy Hour pricing meant $55 per couple. (that includes 6 drinks). Very inexpensive.
