Time to grab lunch after converting some currency at my bank downtown. I thought they were closed because I didn't see anyone until I walked into the bar and someone shouted from the back that they would be right out. I was told to take...a seat anywhere. Looking out at the vast expanse of empty tables, I figured a table by the window would at least let me feel there were others in the universe with me, even if they were outside! I ordered a Coke and the veal cutlet with fries and veggies. The fries were okay though the steamed vegetables just seemed insipid. The two veal cutlets were covered with a brown gravy and had a few rings of red onion laying over the top. The big surprise was attempting to carve through these cutlets! I had been given a fairly sharp steak knife for the task but it was a real chore extricating the first piece. How is it possible to cook a cutlet to the consistency of a two by four? This is a very old location and even with two more tables now occupied, it just seemed all the darker taking into account what I had been served. Note to self: Don't ever think about returningMore
