Visited the new 1931 Gallery Bistro yesterday and the food was quite good, but so disappointing to see the patio make over. It was the for years the best outdoor patio in Vancouver, now it looks like a cheap suburban wedding. Gone are the flowers,...charming seating, instead ugly metal heaters, white sash curtains... Tacky. So sad to see this done so poorly. Inside, I understand the seating needs to be spaced out, with the Pandemic, but it is sterile and with no atmosphere at all. The display counter with the dishes on offer, had such a friendly feeling, The bar looks as if its from a modern hotel, without the friendly bar tender. I suppose it was a financial decision by the Gallery, for the profits to go to the Art Gallery, but I won't be going back. Such a loss to the city. The best patio in the city is now mundane, uninteresting and unwelcoming. The central location had such wonderful possibilities. Now its no longer a place one had to immediately take visitors to show off our city. Couldn't the Art Gallery, of all places, have made a better job of this??.
