The iconic Japanese restaurant, The Octopus’ Garden (OG) — soon entering its third decade in business — is an especially good place for this bumper February week of celebrations. And it is open on Mondays, a day many restaurants in Vancouver close, so perfect for...marking B.C. Family Day on Monday February 15th. Of course, too, for the Chinese Lunar New Year of February 12 and Valentine’s Day on February 14. I live just blocks away so am a regular, as the food is great with an eccentric twist, as well as the good service under the gracious stewardship of owner/chef, Sada. The menus is varied, includes many dishes associated with traditional Japanese fare, as well as a good number of exotic offerings. Prices can be a little higher than some other Japanese restaurants but it is worth it as the food is fresh and of high quality. The wine list is good and many speciality spirits are available. Given few fine restaurants are open on Mondays, the OG could be just the place to dine, indeed as on all the days it is open. It is open from 5pm for dinner, also serving take outs, and is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Reservations recommended. One receives delicious jellied sweets in the shape of an octopus with the bill, as tasty as its food, and a nice subliminal reminder to come again. Posted by S FullerMore
