Finally decided to satisfy our craving for Chinese food in the west end and gave New Dragon Palace a try. Have driven past it many times, just south of Canadian Tire and Beulah Alliance Church in a small strip mall. Initially was using SkiptheDishes to...order but couldn't find a way to ask to pick up (we were hungry, didn't want to wait longer) so I phoned the place directly. At the end I was offered a 10% discount without asking, and it came to about 15% less than what Skip the Dishes was quoting! Super-nice people to deal with when I picked up the food, too. Oh, what about the food? Overall really good! Not everything was perfect, but we'll definitely order from them again. Pan-fried Mixed Vegetables were very saucy, but I added the sauce to some steamed rice and really enjoyed that. Dry Garlic Ribs were lacking in salt, but much better than having it be too salty. Lemon Chicken was very good and the sauce was much more lemon-y than some places where it smelled and tasted almost like soap. This was real lemon flavour. Szechuan Shrimp was good, medium spicy, and again the sauce made for a nice pourover some rice - very tasty BBQ pork-fried rice was excellent, as were the Singapore Noodles. So not everything was 'the best ever' but there were enough really good dishes, and NO dishes that were disappointing, that this will be our go-to place for a while. Dining room was pretty empty at 6:30 on a Saturday evening, so no need to worry about shoulder-to-shoulder dining.
