Maple butter is formed when maple syrup is whipped into a cream. It is relatively smooth, making it dairy-like when in fact there is no dairy product involved in its production.

How It Is Made

Grade A maple syrup, with its light tan colour, is heated to 234 degrees F and then cooled to room temperature, all the while stirring until it has a smooth, light consistency.  One gallon of syrup can make about three kilograms of maple butter.

How To Use

Maple butter is so appealing because of its creamy, buttery consistency that is perfect for spreading on toast, muffins, biscuits, scones, cupcakes, bagels, and pancakes. Maple butter also goes well with baked sweet potatoes or butternut squash. It can be used instead of sugar in apple pie, used as a spread in fruit crepes, or added to tea for a pronounced maple flavour and sweetness.
