Pepperettes are small, fully-cooked, pepperoni sausages, which are often eaten as a snack.  They can be made from any meat such as beef, pork, turkey, venison, bison, elk and more!

Wrap pepperettes in newspaper, freezer paper or parchment paper and place in the refrigerator.  Never wrap in plastic as this prevents air circulation, which can lead to a slimy exterior.

Nutritional Information

Since pepperettes can be made from any kind of meat, there will be a difference in nutrient profile between different varieties.  There does need to be a certain amount of fat in the sausage to prevent it from being dry, pasty and crumbly; and a high quantity of salt is also required to preserve the meat.

2 beef pepperettes (50g) provide approximately 150 calories, 12g fat, 1g carbohydrate, 9 g protein and 700g sodium.

2 turkey pepperettes (50g) provide approximately100 calories, 4g fat, 2g carbohydrate, 12g protein, and 700g sodium.

How To Use

Most people would find no difficulty in eating pepperettes straight out of the fridge.  However, they can be substituted anywhere that you might use pepperoni, such as pizza and pasta. They can be sliced and used as one layer in a multi-layered Mexican dip; roll them in tortillas with some pizza sauce and cheese; sprinkle over your nachos; or encase them in puff pastry for a new twist on sausage rolls.
