All these breeds have had a part in Canada's agricultural history and have adapted to unique environmental conditions across the country. Preserving heritage breeds ensures that the genetic pool of farm animals is broadened and that the qualities that made them so successful in the past continue to flourish for generations of future Canadians.
Rare Breeds Canada is a federally registered charitable organization formed in 1987 dedicated to conserving, evaluating and studying heritage, rare and minor breeds of Canadian farm animals.
