Aberle Farms CSAhttp://firstname.lastname@example.org
2639 Northfield Dr. E.
Open: June 1 - October 31
Stephen and Christine Aberle of Aberle Farms are big believers in knowing where and how food is produced. This is clearly demonstrated through the CSA that they operate – headquartered on their farm at 2639 Northfield Drive North, just north of Elmira. Aberle Farm’s CSA is the first independent, farmer-run CSA program in Waterloo Region. Looking for a way to diversify their farm operation in 2000, their CSA began with only ten clients. Starting small gave the Aberle’s the opportunity to work out all the bugs – literally. The Aberle’s incorporate organic methods of production, without the use of pesticides. This involves utilizing specific crop rotations, hand-picking insects off of the plants and using composted cattle manure created from their own livestock. They also use special ‘natural’ tonics, solutions or teas to fend off the effects of Mother Nature, including a baking soda solution that discourages mildew on cucumbers. In total, there are over 40 different fruits, vegetables and herbs that are included in the weekly CSA food boxes from Aberle Farms. Buying local has never been so easy. Contact the Aberle’s or another CSA program in Waterloo Region to start buying local today.
