From mid-July to October, T.J.’s Farm Fresh Produce is filled with tables full of home-grown vegetables and plenty of satisfied customers. Established originally as a ‘sweet corn’ stand, T.J.’s has become a well-rounded vegetable market, selling only produce grown on the farm owned by Tim and Wendy Beirnes.
T.J.’s cottage-like produce stand is located in Cambridge just south of Breslau.
Corn is a staple product at T.J.’s, beginning in July and continuing as late as September. The sweet corn crop is joined by bushels and heaps of garlic, onions, melons, carrots, squash, gourds, pumpkins, squash, bundles of corn stalks, sweet potatoes, gladioli, eggplant, tomatoes and more. In addition to the many vegetables and flowers, custom-cut freezer beef can also be ordered from T.J.’s Farm Fresh Produce.
Tim, Wendy and their family originally owned and operated a dairy farm but since none of the children showed a keen interest in the dairy operation, they switched gears, sold their quota and began their venture with market gardening. When asked about the change, Tim replies that he should have considered that the dairy cattle’s udders that he was used to milking are higher in height than some of the crops that he currently grows. "It's easier on the knees and the vegetables don’t moo!"
